PARTS OF SHIPS AND PAINTING SYSTEM

Most bottom system for ships are based on epoxy, bituminous, chlorinated rubber or vinyl type binders. Coal tar epoxy coatings tolerate improper surface preparation, improve high saline water resistance and above all are cheaper than most other high performance coatings.

Bituminous chlorinated rubber and vinyl coatings dry physically so they require good substrate temperature as well as ventilation and air movement to dry properly. Adverse conditions could result in solvent retention and blistering.

Coal tar Epoxies although chemically curing need a certain amount of temperature to cure. The substrate temperature relatives to the air temperature and relative humidity are very critical conditions to attain optimum film formation and proper adhesion.

Paint application can be applied by brush, roller or spray. Brush and roller application method do not allow high film build and also slow down the pace of work.

Spray application provides speed and right film build, especially airless spray method.

The following systems are provided as guide to obtain good coating performance from the MEYER PAINTS PROMARINE range.

The areas to be considered are:-

- Underwater and Boot top - Section A
- Boot top and Topside - Section B
- Superstructure and deck - Section C
- Interiors - Section D
- Ballast water tank - Section E
- Cargo holds - Section F
- Off shore/On shore structures - Section G
- Deck fittings - Section H
